Since February 2021, Geni Mabelya has been strengthening the team at the St. Walburg`s Hospital in Tanzania. Her mission is to improve public health in the area surrounding the hospital in Nyangao. Because only through good prevention work can diseases be avoided in the long term and sustainably. In an initial pilot project, she is looking after the health of mothers and children in the catchment area of the hospital. St. Walburg`s Hospitalin particular the persistent problem of malnutrition in many children.
In the first phase of the project, precise data is collected in the outpatient pediatric clinic attached to the hospital. The children are screened for underweight and the causes are recorded. These can be manifold, e.g. caused by severe fevers, parasites or poor nutrition. Only when we know the extent of the problem and the reasons behind it do we develop measures to combat it in the next step.
Geni is always in contact with the mothers and is already establishing initial contacts with village helpers and other multipliers. Because we cannot manage such a task alone.
