Gala Dinner & Dance - A heartfelt thank you

Unterstrich_grau

What a party! Last Saturday, for the third time, we had the pleasure of hosting a gala evening at Nymphenburg Palace for the benefit of Artemed Stiftung and we already know that we will live on the impressions of this event for a long time to come. Such a fantastic dinner, such a wonderfully decorated hall, such rousing music, such good entertainment. So much laughter, so much joy...

But all this will be nothing compared to the happiness that the evening means for those with whom fate has been less kind: the many thousands of people who receive medical help, practical support and human care in the heart projects of Artemed Stiftung .

Over 80,000 euros were raised during the gala evening and are now finding their way, cent by cent, to places that would be excluded from healthcare without Artemed Stiftung and its many helpers.

This is how many steps can be taken in the projects of Artemed Stiftung in 2020. We therefore consider this year's gala evening a complete success - also for ourselves:
24 new members joined the Friends of the Foundation on Saturday, whom we would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome! We are already looking forward to the expanded circle at the "Dinner & Dance" on November 21, 2020 - and until then, many more successful, beautiful and heart-warming projects.

We wish you a wonderful Advent and Christmas season. Enjoy the days with your loved ones and always take the time in the hustle and bustle to take a deep breath and be grateful for everything we take for granted in this country: Safety, health and human warmth.

The street children in La Paz, Bolivia
Nine months ago, Artemed Stiftung was able to use the proceeds from the 2018 gala evening to hand over a new ambulance to the "Street Doctors", who provide at least basic medical care for the many thousands of street children with their mobile medical practices. No toys were distributed, no clothes, no sweets. But the children knew very well that this gift was far better: it stood for health, care and people who look after them where they would otherwise be left to fend for themselves. We would like to further expand this care with this year's proceeds: 60,000 euros will enable 2,000 children, around a third of all street children in La Paz, to receive medical care for a whole year. We are incredibly grateful for this.

The Irrawady River Doctors in Bogale, Myanmar
Finally, a further 10,000 euros will benefit the oldest project at Artemed Stiftung : the Irrawaddy River Doctors. There are hardly any doctors or hospitals in the widely ramified Irrawaddy river delta south of Yangon. The journey to the nearest clinic is long, arduous and can only be made by boat; hardly any villagers can afford the necessary treatment. With a floating clinic, the Irrawaddy River Doctors to the hard-to-reach villages and treat up to 150 patients a day. Prevention also plays a major role here - so far mainly in the form of training for the team on site, but also with awareness campaigns in the villages. Particular attention is paid to the care of mothers and children. This is now to be further expanded with the proceeds from this year's gala evening: A dedicated mother and child center in Bogale offers prenatal care, postpartum care, medical check-ups for children and health education. With the proceeds from the evening, we will be able to purchase laboratory equipment and sterilization facilities and ensure good waste and wastewater disposal - an absolute rarity locally!

The St. Walburg’s Hospital in Nyangao, Tanzania
Dr. Silke Rausch, senior consultant in anaesthesia at the Surgical Hospital Munich South, described it impressively. No matter which hospital we go to in this country, and however much the standards may differ in our hospital landscape, there are some things we can always rely on: Medication, surgical equipment, water, electricity. Always. Numerous systems ensure that there can never be any failures here, and thus really critical situations for patients and teams alike. In southern Tanzania, one of the poorest regions in the world, things are different. When the power went out again during an operation in Nyangao, Dr. Rausch grabbed a flashlight and ran off to help somehow. Everything went well in this case - but what will happen next time? Thanks to your generous support, we are delighted to be able to invest 10,000 euros in the infrastructure at St. Walburg’s Hospital and thus ensure a continuous power supply for the operating theater and vital equipment!
