Eating without getting full - a healthy diet is unthinkable. Despite Tanzania's positive economic development in recent years, a large proportion of the population still lives in great poverty and suffers from the consequences of a diet that is too poor in nutrients. In the Global Hunger Index 2024, Tanzania, United Republic of Tanzania ranks 94th out of 127 countries for which sufficient data is available to calculate the GHI values for 2024. With a score of 22.7 on the Global Hunger Index 2024, Tanzania, United Republic falls into the serious category. This is where the malnutrition program that the Artemed Stiftung is implementing in collaboration with St. Walburg’s Hospital as part of the Community Health Project.

In December 2024 alone, the medical staff examined 351 children under the age of 5 during regular visits to the villages in the region, including an anemia screening. 34 children, almost 10%, suffered from malnutrition, including 3 very serious cases. Four girls and two boys were diagnosed with anemia with a hemoglobin below 7.5 g/dL and were treated at St. Walburg's Hospital.

During the visits to the villages around Nyangao, the women are regularly encouraged to grow suitable vegetables and cereals to generate their own income and thus provide access to a nutritious diet for their families. At the same time, the team supports the women in developing self-confidence in order to secure the family's standard of living and thus also the health and well-being of their children.

In this context, it is also essential to convey to the women and the village community how important it is to raise the money for health insurance in order to significantly reduce the costs of health care and treatment in the event of illness. Your donations contribute significantly to the implementation of this program against malnutrition - for this we say thank you!
