At St. Walburg’s Hospital in rural southern Tanzania, thousands of patients are treated every month who would otherwise have no access to healthcare. The Artemed Stiftung supports the hospital in fulfilling this important task. Every month, we receive a detailed report from the hospital management about the activities and development of our cooperation. Here is the information for the month of November.

M.A.T.E.on-site operations:
In November, Sister Ullamariam and Angelika and Miriam Hartmann from our hygiene team were on site. Their work focused primarily on implementing the measures discussed in the hygiene team to improve the hygiene situation. In addition, Ms. Silke Rausch spent two weeks at the hospital to provide training in anaesthesia. In the field of gynaecology, Dr. Kurt Bischofberger supported the introduction of endoscopic surgical procedures in operative gynaecology.
From our specialist groups:
Our hygiene team, represented by Sister Ullamariam and Angelika Hartmann, made a number of contributions to improving hygiene during their time at the hospital. For example, they introduced uniform, clean surgical clothing and explained how to clean it properly.
Community Health Project:
In November, nine villages were visited as part of the project and 575 women took part in the educational program on proper nutrition and women's empowerment. During the visits, 266 women underwent cervical screening. Preventive medical check-ups were carried out on 370 children. In the process, 36 children were diagnosed with severe iron anemia and 40 children with severe malnutrition.
