At the beginning of March 2022, Benedikt Lenz was the first physiotherapist on duty at St. Walburg's Hospital in Tanzania for Artemed Stiftung . At the time of his visit, the rural hospital had employed a physiotherapist on a temporary basis and recently had a few therapeutic devices at its disposal. The physio department of the hospital in Nyangao was still considered more of a "pilot project" and was now to be evaluated and optimized.

At the end of the successful assignment, his recommendation resulted in the long-term permanent employment of the local therapist, the development and purchase of further useful physiotherapeutic equipment, the structuring of the therapy department and weight room, and the planning of an "office" for physiotherapy.

"The enriching experiences with the people in the surrounding villages, the extremely warm staff of St. Walburg's Hospital, the successes with the patients as well as the opportunity to organize and design the physio department made it an unforgettable experience for me. I am looking forward to further assignments for the Artemed Stiftung in Tanzania!" says Benedikt.

"I think that through the competent and empathetic physiotherapist on site, the procurement of good therapy equipment, the professionalized appearance of the department through the office and the planned installation of a weight room, a good foundation has been created for a positive future of the physio department at St. Walburg's Hospital. I would be very pleased if the department and the hospital continue to gain a positive reputation in the surrounding area and, as a result, more therapists can be employed due to increasing patient numbers. This would take a lot of pressure off the already busy department, allowing the patient's well-being to be even more of a focus. In the long term, it would be fantastic if the hospital could develop into a regional physiotherapy center. It would be great if, for this purpose, a professional exchange could also be maintained in the future by further physiotherapeutic task forces from Artemed Stiftung ."
