Monthly report Irrawaddy River Doctors December 2021

Unterstrich_grau

With this project Irrawaddy River Doctors Artemed Stiftung is sending Burmese doctors and nurses on a floating clinic to areas of the Irrawaddy Delta in southern Myanmar that are cut off from medical care. This gives people in remote villages that can only be reached by boat the opportunity to see a family doctor or dentist. Every month, the mobile clinic is on the Irrawaddy for 23 days at a time, calling at a new village on the route every two to three days. This gives over 320,000 people access to basic medical care.

Route

Yoke Sai, Nget Taw, Hle Seik, Thar Yar Gone, Sar Phyu Su, Kin Tat, Wel Chaung, Hay Maan, Kyone Hlute Thit, Hton

Current events

Covid-19

Covid-19 cases are unfortunately increasing from Tag to Tag There are currently more than 100 confirmed cases in Bogale. The city of Bogale is in lockdown and the authorities and police are strictly enforcing compliance with the rules. Some districts are completely closed. The plan of the Irrawaddy River Doctors was actually to operate continuously from November to December 20, but the ship had to pause from November 24 to December 8 due to current developments. We will now sail until Christmas and then, after an incredibly exhausting year for our crew and months away from home, we will take a two-week vacation. The next tour will start on January 4, if conditions permit.
