Where to put all the garbage?

Unterstrich_grau

We throw our garbage in the garbage can. It is emptied by the waste collection service and the towns and municipalities take care of the rest. Occasionally we go to the recycling center and take the recyclable items there. For us, this all goes without saying. But what do we do when all these options are not available? Where to put the garbage? In the Irrawaddy Delta in Myanmar the garbage often ends up in the river. A situation that neither the Burmese nor our emergency teams can tolerate any longer. Unfortunately, the government is not yet ready to deal with the problem nationwide. So we now have to find solutions ourselves. The ball was set rolling in January 2020 by our mission team Dr. Christoph Sabersky and Dr. Margit Hafner together with our Burmese dentist in the small village of Pyat Pyee, which is on the route of the Irrawaddy River Doctors is located. Dr. Sabersky captured the event in a wonderful little film. There is now a major waste management initiative throughout the region, led by Min Min, our manager of the Irrawaddy River Doctors. And in our I.N.G.E. project, we are also tackling the issue in other villages.
