Today, on International Nurses' Day, we would like to thank all the people who work in this profession. The World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva has rightly declared 2020 the global year of professional nurses and midwives: "These two health professions are invaluable for the health of the population. Without them, we will not be able to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and universal health coverage. 2020 will focus on highlighting the tremendous contributions of nurses and midwives and ensuring that we address the shortage of these vital professions."

The background to this is that May 12, 2020 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale. "Florence Nightingale used her lamp to illuminate the places where nurses worked. I hope the celebration of 2020 as the International Year of Nurses and Midwives will bring us a new vision in 2020 of what nursing means in a new era and how professional nurses are leading the way to universal health care and health for all!" says Annette Kennedy, President of the International Council of Nurses (ICN).

In our projects today, we personally thank the nurses and carers for their commitment and honor them with small gifts.
