After 2017 and 2018, the 3rd midwife training in Bogale took place at the beginning of October 2019 under the direction of Tutzing gynaecologist Dr. Solveig Groß. While there were 6 midwives in 2017, this year there were already 35 participants - all midwives from our catchment area - as well as representatives from the local health authorities and Bogale Hospital. The training consisted of a theoretical part and 3 workshops on the topics of surgical suturing techniques, obstetric procedures using a simulation model and an overview of micronutrients in regional foods as well as nutritional advice for pregnant women. At the end of the full-day training course, an evaluation was carried out and the participants received a certificate. A repeat course has already been requested for next year.

Thanks to the continuous development and expansion of prenatal care in the Irrawaddy River Doctors the situation for mothers and their newborns in the severely underserved Irrawaddy Delta has improved significantly. Together with the local health authorities, we want to further expand the program and reach even more women.
