Anna Reischer on assignment in Bolivia

Dr. Anna Reischer supported the Street Doctors in Bolivia for over two weeks.

The team regularly visited a school with her in El Alto, a poor neighborhood of the city that borders La Paz. Here, the students received comprehensive education, especially on the topics of hygiene, dental health, including toothbrushing training, and healthy nutrition. In addition, the doctors treated current ailments.

During a visit to a women's prison, both the women and their children were examined and treated, and provided with medication, as there is no medical care for the children there. The team also visited a rehabilitation center for young people up to the age of 18 who have committed crimes. The team diagnosed numerous colds and severe flu-like infections, which, if left untreated, can lead to pneumonia and serious middle ear infections. It is essential to prevent hospitalizations here, as it is virtually impossible for most inmates and their children, as well as the young people, to obtain permission for a hospital stay.

Dr. Reischer also trained our medical colleagues at Street Doctors in the use of ultrasound equipment to prepare them for an exam that the doctors will take in the near future. In general, the regular exchange of knowledge between the teams on site and the medical colleagues at the Artemed Stiftung is Artemed Stiftung helpful and a great benefit for both sides!
