At the Mother Child Center in Bogale, Myanmar "the lights go out" - the national power supply is interrupted more and more frequently and electricity is only available for a few hours. With a lot of luck, there is electricity during the day, but it can also happen that the power is switched on for 4 hours at night and is cut again for 8 hours during the day.
Stable electricity is essential to cool the temperatures down to a bearable level for babies, women giving birth and sick children during the hot months. The medical equipment also needs electricity, the water treatment plant, refrigerators, lights...! At present, the only alternative is the generator, but the extreme rise in the price of oil and the simultaneous shortage of fuel has made it unaffordable and unreliable.
The solution is a self-sufficient power supply through a solar system on the roof of the mother and child center. Our solar and technology expert Henrik Rausch, who has been supporting the Artemed Stiftung 's projects in word and deed for years, worked with the electrical engineer from the Irrawaddy River Doctors developed a solar concept whereby the majority of the required electricity is supplied by solar energy, surpluses are stored in batteries, the national power supply is also used when it is available and the generator only starts up in an absolute emergency.
The 24 kW solar system for the roof of the Mother Child Center cost 21,000 euros! An investment for the future that is worthwhile in every respect. We kindly ask for your help and donation so that the solar system can be installed as soon as possible.
In 2024, an average of more than 160 women received prenatal care every month, more than 50 babies under the age of one were cared for and treated every month, and around 20 babies were born every month at the Irrawaddy Doctors Mother and Child Center. You can find their photos in our baby gallery.
We thank you for your financial support so that the power supply for mother-child care can continue to be secured. Every amount helps!
