"Zona de Callapa", "Pena Azul", "Santiago de Lacaya" etc. - these are the names of the poor districts around the Bolivian capital La Paz. Some of them are almost 100 km away from the large metropolis and can only be reached via gravel roads. The journeys to these regions are correspondingly arduous and long and visits to La Paz are virtually impossible for the people living there.
However, in order to give these people access to medical care, our Street Doctors are always willing to go the extra mile: it is a matter of course for them to be there for the many poor families who otherwise have no chance of getting help with health problems. They want to help precisely those patients who not only have no financial means to see a doctor, but for whom it is also not possible to get care due to the distance to the nearest medical facility.
Our team was therefore out and about a lot again last week, attending to various ailments, relieving pain and treating wounds. Of course, the visits were also used to carry out the all-important medical check-ups on the children. It is not uncommon for malnutrition, anemia or other illnesses to be diagnosed in this way, which can then be treated quickly. Thanks to their warmth and empathy, the doctors have once again succeeded above all in giving the mothers and fathers there hope and bringing a smile to the children's faces. We are very grateful that we have such a great team on site, who set out every day with so much love in their hearts!
