At St. Walburg’s Hospital in rural southern Tanzania, thousands of patients are treated every month who would otherwise have no access to healthcare. The Artemed Stiftung supports the hospital in fulfilling this important task. Every month, we receive a detailed report from the hospital management on the activities and development of our cooperation. Here is the information for the month of June.

Current status St. Walburg’s Hospital
In June, St. Walburg’s Hospital received a visit from the director of the Mtwara Zonal Referral Hospital, thereby intensifying the cooperation. Meetings with the authorities in the region were also organized for July in order to kick-start the planned construction project.
Deployments:
Midwife Leonie Zander was also on site in June, but these were her last days at the hospital.
Community Healthcare and Outreach project:
In June, 493 women were screened for cervical cancer as part of the community health outreach project. In addition, 502 small children (under the age of five) were examined and 13 were diagnosed with malaria infection, which could then be treated directly. During the examinations, malnutrition was detected in 53 children - four of whom were severely malnourished; treatment could be started immediately. Eight girls and five boys suffered from iron anemia. It is hoped that this can now be brought under control with appropriate sublimation.
A total of 779 children were vaccinated both at the hospital and during visits to the various villages.
In addition to the examinations, lectures and workshops on the prevention of domestic violence and proper nutrition were again held. 695 women and 49 men took part in the events.
