At St. Walburg’s Hospital in rural southern Tanzania, thousands of patients are treated every month who would otherwise have no access to healthcare. The Artemed Stiftung supports the hospital in fulfilling this important task. Every month, we receive a detailed report from the hospital management about the activities and development of our cooperation. Here is the information for the month of October.

Deployments:
In October, our long-standing volunteers Sr. Dr. Ullamariam Hoffmann, Dr. Solveig Groß and Mr. Ralf Groß were among those working in Tanzania. Mr. and Mrs. Rainer and Sabine Salfeld, Managing Director Veronika Hofmann and the Schmieg family were also on site.
Community Healthcare and Outreach project:
As part of the Community Healthcare project, 1409 children were vaccinated in September. Together with the 'Gender based violence' project, 764 girls and young women were educated about proper nutrition for their families and about their rights. Once again, it was nice to see that some fathers also attended the meetings. As part of the visits, 418 children in 8 different locations were also examined as a precautionary measure - a truly remarkable number. This resulted in 33 cases of anemia and 39 cases of malnutrition in children under the age of five, 4 of which were already in a very serious condition. The children concerned were taken to hospital for treatment.
In addition, 86 children who came to the hospital in September due to malnutrition were successfully treated. They will continue to have regular check-ups in the coming months to ensure a healthy weight in the long term.
In October, 276 women also received cervical screening.
