At St. Walburg’s Hospital in rural southern Tanzania, thousands of patients are treated every month who would otherwise have no access to healthcare. The Artemed Stiftung supports the hospital in fulfilling this important task. Every month, we receive a detailed report from the hospital management about the activities and development of our cooperation. Here is the information for the month of July.

In July, the new clinic manager Mr. Hilary started at St. Walburg’s Hospital. His first official working day was July 10, 2023.

The number of births continues to rise, and bed occupancy also increased in July compared to previous months.

Deployments

In July, Prof. Peter Schmieg and his wife Christina Schmieg were on site in Nyangao. The architect from Freiburg inspected the clinic's premises together with the hospital management and discussed possible renovations and new buildings.

Community Healthcare and Outreach project:

As part of the Community Healthcare project, 1238 children were vaccinated in July. Together with the 'Gender based violence' project, 224 girls and young women were informed about proper nutrition for their families and about their rights. During the visits, some children were also examined as a precautionary measure, with 10 girls and 15 boys being diagnosed with anemia and 11 small children under the age of five with malnutrition. The children concerned were taken to hospital for treatment.

Cervical screening tests were also carried out again. A total of 81 women were tested. Fortunately, the results were negative for all of them.

Training sessions and workshops on hygiene and cleanliness were also held.
