Unterstrich_grau

At St. Walburg’s Hospital in rural southern Tanzania, thousands of patients are treated every month who would otherwise have no access to healthcare. The Artemed Stiftung supports the hospital in fulfilling this important task. Every month, we receive a detailed report from the hospital management about the activities and development of our cooperation. Here is the information for the month of October.

M.A.T.E.on-site operations:

In October, several volunteers from Artemed Stiftung worked at St. Walburg’s Hospital . These included electrician and IT expert Mr. Heiko Metzger with Ms. Jana Zielinski, gynaecologist Titania Eberle and surgeon Katharina von Pelden.

From our specialist groups:

Ms. Groß from our gynaecology team met with Dr. Kasoga several times during his three-week visit to Germany and discussed options for early detection and treatment of cervical cancer. The two of them attended the WHO Summit 2022 in Berlin together and then exchanged ideas at Ms. Groß's practice, among other places.

Infrastructure and acquisitions:

Mr. Metzger was an IT specialist at St. Walburg's Hopital to check the technical infrastructure there. One of his tasks was the installation and configuration of a HumHub server, as well as instructing a representative on how to operate a defibrillator.

Community Health Project:

In October, 1008 infants were vaccinated as part of the project at St. Walburg’s Hospital . Six different villages in the region were visited by Ms. Geni Mabelya and her team, and 451 screening tests were carried out on young children. Malnutrition was detected in 81 children. Seven of them were severely malnourished and required immediate hospital treatment. In addition, 23 children were diagnosed with severe iron anemia with HB levels below 7.5 g/dl.

During the visits to the villages, 1280 women were able to take part in the training program. In addition to Geni Mabelya, the Gender and Community Officer Joanneema Laizer is now also involved, primarily providing information on women's rights (Gender Based Violence, GBV). Thanks to her efforts, important issues such as domestic violence, sexual abuse and forced marriage could be discussed with the women.

Other:

During his three-week trip to Germany, Dr. Kasoga visited Artemed Stiftung in Tutzing, among others, and established further joint collaborations with Managing Director Veronika Hofmann and Sister Raphaela.
