Monthly report from Myanmar: Su Sus News and Insights

Unterstrich_grau

Every month, our project manager in Myanmar Su Myat Oo (called Su Su) sends us a summary of the activities at the Irrawaddy River Doctors and at the mother and child center. She also gives us an insight into the current situation in the politically unstable Myanmar and the impact this is having on the local people.

We reproduce her impressive report in the original English language. Here are her observations for the month of October:

Dear Dr. Veronika,

I am writing a monthly overview report for IRD October, 2022 trip. Our trip had finished safely and complete on October 23rd Sunday evening. In this month, our team was able to provide medical treatment for 12 villages.

According to ICD result, we treated a total amount of children and adults about 1285 patients. This includs general patients (933; 73 %) and dDental patients (352; 27 %). We checked 87 pregnant women and did 64 laboratory test for AN care. 174 children under 15 years (male female) came for medical check-ups and including dental treatment. Total deworming number for October 2022 is 150.

As usual the diseases that our team treats regularly were mainly Malaria, Dengue, Hepatitis, Syphilis, HIV, diabetes mellitus, coughing, respiratory infection, disease of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, joint swelling and pain, and much more. In the dental Clinic, we helped patients with dental caries, periodontitis, gingivitis, sometimes oral ulcer and tongue ulcer. For the filling procedure, composite filling, glass ionomer filling as temporary and sometimes zincoxide eugenol were used as medicated filling.

This month, due to the weather conditions, we could reach two villages less than in September, which also results in 45 fewer treated patients. Furthermore, during October, we took a break from the health education program to schools. As you know, this time is a very difficult situation for the people of Myanmar. Amid political instability, everyone struggles for the livelihood and due to the political instability, everyone felt more hurt and hurt.

Now, we are planning and discussing the November trip and we will certainly restart the health and dental education program. We have toothpaste and toothbrush to share as well as soaps and mosquito repellent lotion.

I would like to thank the Artemed Stiftung Foundation for continue support and love for Myanmar operation. We want you to know that we are working hard to be the best we can. We love and miss you all.

With Best Regards,

Su Su @ Myanmar

With Best regards,

Su Su
