A wheelchair for Fatuma

Unterstrich_grau

Fatuma cannot walk. She was born with crippled legs. They are too weak to carry her. Her parents could not afford a visit to the doctor and so it is not clear whether she could have been helped. She is now 22 years old and lives in the primary school in Nyangao. During her childhood, she could not walk to school like the other children and had to stay at home. It was not until late that she got a wheelchair, which gave her some mobility and allowed her parents to send her to school for the first time as a teenager. She is a slow learner and often has to repeat the material. But she is happy to be able to be in school at all.

Her wheelchair broke down over two years ago. She didn't want to go home because of this, so she stayed at school and from then on moved around on the floor. We saw this during one of our visits to St. Walburg`s Hospital Tanzania. We asked at the clinic, but even there all the wheelchairs were broken. A situation that cannot be left as it is. Without further ado, the only 4 wheelchairs that were available were purchased in Dar Es Salaam. We would like to purchase a further 15 to make life easier for both patients in hospital and people like Fatuma. Help us achieve this goal and donate now!
