Tablets wanted!

A big step - almost there!

In St. Walburg’s Hospital in Tanzania (Nyangao), doctors, nurses and other staff are working at full speed. Too many patients for too few staff - at least under the circumstances we have encountered in the past: Countless stacks of paper, filled out by hand to record patient data. A gust of wind and the re-sorting begins; a dropped cup and the forms have to be filled out again. Forms that are not filled out 100% correctly are misread and data accuracy suffers. Anyone can imagine that it can have serious consequences for a patient if their file contains incorrect information.

But as mentioned above, these scenarios are fortunately a thing of the past in Nyangao. Thanks to our technical intervention in December 2021, the pure paper administration was converted to a new digital system within four weeks. More than 4000 patients have already been registered by computer. Only the most important papers are now to be found on the office desks of the staff. In addition to the pure reduction in paper waste, this means a decrease in the error rate to almost zero and an extreme reduction in the workload of the staff.

Why then 'A big step - (only) almost done!' ? In order to completely digitalise the processes, the patients' data should also be recorded directly in the system during the ward rounds. However, the necessary tablets are still missing at the moment. But there are not many! A total of 14 are needed for the seven wards.

Our appeal to you: With your old tablets gathering dust in the drawer, St. Walburg’s Hospital could take the last small step towards a complete system changeover.

They not only contribute to the modernisation of the clinic, but above all to relieving the workload of the staff. Time that is now wasted on 'paperwork' can thus flow into the much more important and valuable work of patient care.

We are grateful for any tablet with a working screen and battery.
