News from Bolivia

News of a second Covid wave has also reached us from Bolivia. The number of infections is rising rapidly and all hospitals are overloaded. In contrast to the first wave in June/July 2020, the new government under President Luis Arce has so far taken hardly any measures to contain the pandemic. Only the public buses are running at a lower frequency than before, but this has not led to a reduction in passengers, but on the contrary to even more crowded public transport.
Like most developing countries, Bolivia is having great difficulty getting enough vaccine. The first 20,000 doses of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V. have arrived in the country, but this is only a drop in the ocean and further deliveries are not yet in sight. Our team continues to take full care of the street children in La Paz, observing strict protective measures. They are very grateful that they are not being abandoned even in these times.
