A heavy machine comes along. In front of it is a large, massive drill: the water connections are being laid today in the small Bavarian housing estate. The first residents are due to move into their new homes in a few days' time and, of course, the water pipes should also be laid by then. That won't be a problem with the equipment on site: Within a short time, the drilling will be completed and work can begin on laying the pipes for the entire estate.
A borehole for the water supply also needs to be drilled for our mother and child center in Bogale. The quality of the current water is not sufficient. In order to improve it, a deeper hole needs to be drilled: It will go seven meters into the ground. However, it is not a machine that is being used here, but seven men with long wooden beams and other utensils. A frame is erected in the humid air of the tropical region. With the help of a generator and a hoist, a drill is installed on the wobbly scaffolding, which is now being supported by two of the men. One man climbs daringly into the air, two begin to operate the drill with their hands and another operates the hoist and guards the generator. It stinks of diesel and is very loud. The men sweat in the sun, but continue to drill tirelessly. Day after day they come back - after more than a week of hard work, the time has finally come and the connection to the maternity clinic can begin. Such an important effort by these people - and once again an example that shows us how much more energy and time we have to put into our projects in order to implement simple things for us.
