At St. Walburg’s Hospital in rural southern Tanzania, thousands of patients are treated every month who would otherwise have no access to healthcare. The Artemed Stiftung supports the hospital in fulfilling this important task. Every month, we receive a detailed report from the hospital management on the activities and development of our cooperation. Here is the information for the month of June.

From the hospital:
At the end of June, Bishop Wolfgang Pisa approved the application of Mr. Hilary D. Mbando to succeed Mr. Laiser. Mr. Mbando previously worked in Arusha and already has a lot of experience in hospital management.
In addition, another new person, Mr. John T. Mbezi, has been hired. He will primarily deal with personnel matters.
From our specialist groups:
We are currently working with the hygiene team in Tanzania to organize and finance hygiene training for selected local staff.
Community Healthcare and Outreach project:
As part of the Community Healthcare project, 1373 children were vaccinated in June - over 200 more than in May. During the weekly trips to the villages, a total of ten communities were visited and 648 small children were examined. In the process, 12 children were diagnosed with iron anemia and 47 with malnutrition. It is good to see that the numbers are slowly decreasing and it can therefore be assumed that the work carried out as part of the malnutrition project is already having a positive impact.
In addition, 280 women were screened for cervical cancer; we were already pleased with the rising number in May - and now there were 100 more in June. It's great to see that this very simple screening method is being accepted and that many women are being diagnosed with the disease at an early stage. If the results are positive, those affected can be helped quickly and effectively and lives can be saved.
