News of a second wave of covid has also reached us from Bolivia. The number of infections is rising rapidly and all hospitals are overloaded. In contrast to the first wave in June/July 2020, the new government under President Luis Arce has so far taken hardly any measures to contain the pandemic. Only the public buses are running at a lower rate than before, which, however, does not lead to a reduction in passengers, but on the contrary to even more crowded public transport.
Like most developing countries, Bolivia has great difficulty in obtaining enough vaccine. The first 20,000 doses of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V. have arrived in the country, but this is only a drop in the ocean; further deliveries are not yet in sight. Our team continues to take full care of the street children in La Paz while maintaining strict protective measures. They are very grateful that they are not abandoned in these times.
