Lively exchange despite difficult conditions

It is not always easy to stay in contact with our partners in the project regions. Especially in recent years, when the pandemic and the political situation in Myanmar have made reciprocal visits virtually impossible.

Nevertheless, we have managed to stay in contact with even the most remote areas: Thanks to increased IT measures in the past and well-trained local staff, we now have access to an infrastructure and technical knowledge. Regular online meetings, for example with Su Myat Oo, head of the Mother-Child Center at Myanmar , have now become routine. We discuss the figures and statistics of the Irrawaddy River Doctors and the Mother-Child Center with 'Susu' several times a month. Thanks to screen-sharing, we are able to go through the tables together, clear up misunderstandings and eliminate ambiguities. It is often the case that further questions arise during these discussions, which can then be discussed directly. And new ideas are often born and spun out.

Conferences with the various working groups are also possible at regular intervals with Tanzania and Bolivia. Even though there are always failures of the internet or even the power supply, we see a clear improvement compared to the past. Now it is our endeavour to train as many people as possible on site in order to have competent staff on hand in case of problems. This way we can be sure that we can continue to build on this kind of communication and be in the best possible position in case of future travel restrictions. Because this is the only way to guarantee the successful implementation of projects. And by the way, it is simply nice to be able to laugh together with our local partners again and again, to exchange private things and to build trust. Because as the saying goes: 'Trust is the basis for good cooperation!
