From the end of July to the beginning of August (20.07 - 3.08), nurse Barbara Theissen visited our partner hospital St. Walburg's Hospital in Nyangao(Tanzania). She traveled there together with the Foundation's long-standing volunteers Sr. Ulla-Mariam Hoffmann and Angelika Hartmann (both from the hygiene team at Artemed Stiftung) and provided support in the area of nursing and trained the intensive care nurses on site. She conducted several workshops and supported her Tanzanian colleagues with tips and assistance for everyday medical care. Like the other two experts from the hygiene team, she also focused on hygiene in order to make progress in the area of care.
During the joint work and training sessions, it was particularly noticeable that the local nursing staff at the hospital were highly motivated and showed a strong interest in improving and learning new things. Another positive aspect is that the team is very well organized in an emergency and well informed about which equipment and medication to use and when.
During their stay, the three experts also had the opportunity to discuss with Medical Director Dr. Kasoga which innovations, acquisitions and changes should have the highest priority in the coming months. A detailed list of "to-do's", suggestions and wishes was drawn up. The task now is to implement these as soon as possible.
With the tireless efforts of our employees on site and the support of our volunteers from Germany, we are sure that this will succeed very quickly!
