Every month, our project manager in Myanmar Su Myat Oo (called Su Su) sends us a summary of the activities at the Irrawaddy River Doctors and at the mother and child center. She also gives us an insight into the current situation in the politically unstable Myanmar and the impact this is having on the local people.
We reproduce her impressive report in the original English language. Here are her observations for the month of June.
Dear Dr.Veronika,
I am writing a monthly overview report for IRD June 2024 trip and activities. As our boat is coming back from dockyard and ready again for the medical trip, our team had undergone the medical trip from 1st to 21st June and provided medical treatment to 12 villages.
The ICD result showed that we reached 2143 patients in total. Among these people, 68 were pregnant women taking AN care, 230 boys and girls beetween 1 to 14 years old took medical and dental check-ups. Furthermore 22 children younger than 1 year visited us. We did screening test regarding comprehensive AN care to 63 pregnant women and a total of 167 did laboratory testing in this month. Furthermore, we provided deworming to 200 patients in total.
During this month, our team provided the general medical treatment such as Idiopathic Anaemia, Urinary Tract Infection and Rheumatic Fever according to the signs and symptoms of the patients and the laboratory test results. Furthermore, our team provided treatment for Non-Communicable Diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Ischemic Heart Disease, Vulvular Heart Disease, Myocardial infarct and Stroke. During this month, we had random blood sugar testing to 455 patients whose BMI were above 23. And we also did Electrocardiogram (ECG) testing to 487 new patients who were above 40 years old.
As our dentist came back for working on boat, we started again the dental treatments and dental health care. According to the dental ICD list, total number of dental patients is 432.126 children under 15 years came for dental care and treatment (29%), boys 60 and girls 66. For the dental patients we provided e. g. treatments concerning caries, periodontitis, gingivitis, sometimes oral ulcer and more. We shared knowledge about how to care teeth, and we support related medicine for some dental patients.
In June doctor Dr.Chan (dentist - we reported) came back to our boat as well as two new nurses.
In conclusion, thanks again to Artemed Stiftung and all donors for your continuous support and love for Myanmar operation. I am very happy to be able to work together with trust until today. We are always praying for you to be success more and more.
you.
