The initiator of the project I.N.G.E. was Mr. Jochen Seefried, who, on the occasion of the death of his wife Inge, who gave the project its name, fulfilled her last wish to help the people in the Irrawaddy Delta. Since 2020 I.N.G.E. then carried out by Artemed Stiftung, together with the Burmese organization Meikswe Myanmar. I.N.G.E. also stands for Innovative Non Government Education- innovative non-governmental education.
This was a prevention project aimed at educating the population in the Irrawaddy River Delta (Myanmar). Particular emphasis was placed on raising awareness of hygiene. The main driver for the implementation of the project was its namesake Inge Seefried, whose request was to take intensive care of the people in the delta.
A lot was achieved within the project period and we are proud that we were able to fulfill Mrs. Seefried's last wish. To conclude the project, we would like to share a small success story of Khin Mar Win and her family, who took part in the project.
Khin Mar Win is 40 years old and lives with her husband and their five daughters in the small village of Nga Kaung Chaung Gye Village. She describes the situation and the behavior of her community before the project started as extremely unsustainable. Plastic and other garbage was simply thrown onto the street or into the water, the cesspools of the simple latrines - if they existed at all - were discharged directly into the nearby streams. No value was placed on hygiene either. There was no awareness of the consequences of this behavior, especially for one's own health.
"This situation has changed fundamentally," says Khin Mar Win happily. After attending four workshops on cleanliness and hygiene as part of the I.N.G.E. project, she began to spread her newly acquired knowledge in the community and motivate the population to get involved. With the help of others involved, she ensured that waste garbage cans were installed, a waste disposal system was established and wastewater disposal was regulated. Many toilets were also built. She introduced the use of soap in her family and the regular cleaning of her house. "Since then, we have had far fewer health problems," she says happily. "I am very grateful that our community had the chance to take part in this project and that it has been so successful!"
We would like to thank Ms. Seefried and the many donors on behalf of all those who have been given a better life through this initiative.
