Jeden Monat schickt uns unsere Projektleiterin in Myanmar Su Myat Oo (genannt Su Su) eine Zusammenfassung der Aktivitäten bei den Irrawaddy River Doctors und im Mutter-Kind-Zentrum. Darüber hinaus gewährt sie uns Einsichten in die aktuelle Lage im politisch instabilen Myanmar und welche Auswirkungen dies auf die Menschen vor Ort hat.
Wir geben ihren eindrucksvollen Bericht im Original in Englischer Sprache wieder. Hier sind ihre Beobachtungen für den Monat März.
Dear Dr.Veronika,
I hope you are in good health. I am writing a monthly overview report for IRD March trip for the duration 8. – 31. of March. During this time we visited 14 villages to help with our medical treatments.
According to the ICD results we were able to help 857 patients. Among these patients, about 5.6% (48) were pregnant women who came for AN care. Furthermore 8 boys and girls (10.3%) between 1 to 14 years came for medical check-ups and treatment, and 32 more were children under the age of 1. We did screening tests regarding comprehensive AN care to 38 pregnant women and a 318 patients did laboratory testing. Moreover, we provided deworming to 100 patients.
During this month, the patients came mainly due to idiopathic anaemia, urinary tract infection and rheumatic fever. Furthermore we treated non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, stroke and more. We also did some random blood sugar testings and found 142 patients whose BMI was above 23. And we also did Electrocardiogram (ECG) testing to 197 new patients who were above 40 years old. Furthermore, patients with acute problems came to us, and we did our best to help them.
Even though there is no dental surgeon at the moment on the boat, our team provided medical treatment to minor dental illness such as lip sores, oral candidiasis, aphthous ulcer, toothache due to dental caries, periodontitis, gingivitis, oral ulcer and tongue ulcer due to sharp edges of the teeth and growth in oral mucosa due to carcinoma.
In conclusion, we would like to thank again the Artemed Stiftung and all donors for your continuous support and love for Myanmar operation. I am very happy to be able to work together with trust until today. I always pray for you.

Neuigkeiten aus dem Mutter-Kind-Zentrum, Bogale
Im März wurden 10 Babies in unserem MCC geboren. Auch die prenatalen Untersuchungen wurden gut angenommen: So kamen 172 werdende Mütter zur Untersuchung. Außerdem besuchten 12 Kleinkinder das Mutter-Kind Zentrum, bei denen u. a. Vorsorgeuntersuchungen durchgeführt wurden.
