Jeden Monat schickt uns unsere Projektleiterin in Myanmar Su Myat Oo (genannt Su Su) eine Zusammenfassung der Aktivitäten bei den Irrawaddy River Doctors und im Mutter-Kind-Zentrum. Darüber hinaus gewährt sie uns Einsichten in die aktuelle Lage im politisch instabilen Myanmar und welche Auswirkungen dies auf die Menschen vor Ort hat.

Wir geben ihren eindrucksvollen Bericht im Original in Englischer Sprache wieder. Hier sind ihre Beobachtungen für den Monat September:

Dear Dr. Veronika,

I want to write a monthly overview report for September trip. On September 24th, we finished our medical trip safely and completed by the Grace of God. Our team returned back to the office station safe and happy. Some of the went back back to their homes for holidays.

According to September trip schedule, we started on September 2nd and visited about 14 villages. According to ICD result, we treated 1330 patients – children and adults. Among these patients were 949 general patients (71 %), 381 dental patients (29 %) and 70 pregnancy women. We did laboratory test for 45 pregnant women and a total number of 168 children under 15 years (male and female) came for medical check-ups, including dental treatment. The total number of children under 1 year is 17. The total deworming number  is 152.

The diseases that our team treatet the most this month were the regularly ones such as Malaria, Dengue, Hepatitis, Syphilis, and HIV. Patienst also came due to diabetes mellitus, coughing, respiratory infection and diseases of the skin. Women came also for prenatal care and dilvery. In the dental Clinic we provided help for patients with dental caries, periodontitis, gingivitis and sometimes oral ulcer and tongue ulcer due to sharp edges of the teeth.

During this September trip we got more patients than the previous month because this month there was less rain than August. We are very happy about this situation, because we can help much more people who need our help. During September we could also visit some schools for Health and Dental Education. We distributed to students hand wahing soaps, mosquito repellent lotions and also toothpaste and toothbrushes. As you know, many students still don’t know much about the hygiene – so, if we don’t eductae them, no one will explain it to them. That’s why they thanks to IRD team for health education plan and distribution.

We all are feeling thankful that you came and to visite us. We believe that you will know and see not only the situation in Myanmar but also the needs of IRD operation and MCC’s operation. We hope to work together for further development in our Myanmar operation.

Neuigkeiten aus dem Mutter-Kind-Zentrum, Bogale

Im September wurde das Mutter-Kind-Zentrum (MCC) insgesamt 183 Mal von Frauen zur Behandlung besucht. Davon kamen zwei zum Entbinden, 161 zur Schwangerschaftsvorsorge und drei zur Nachkontrolle. Die verbleibenden 17 Patienten suchten das Zentrum wegen anderer Beschwerden auf. 10 Mädchen und Jungen kamen zu Untersuchungen. Bei sieben wurde eine Unterernährung festgestellt, davon vier mit einem BMI < 13, was einem sehr starken Untergewicht entspricht.
